Growing up as a kid in the then Salisbury, Rhodesia, I spent many a school holiday helping my parents in their shop – Engravit – engraving services on the corner of Second Street and Forbes Avenue. It was a great way to earn some pocket money and an awesome way to learn all about engraving. The engraving equipment was all Gravograph (now Gravotech) Pantograph machines that used brass stencil lettering sets.

In today’s world, the principles of engraving are basically still the same, but the techniques have all improved as technology has developed and of course a lot of the manual processes are now computerised.
